What is wrong with drivers nowadays? Are they really in such a hurry? Is there really a need to drive that fast? I thought safety first? Just because their cars have the latest technologies & safety protection doesn't mean they can escape unscath in an accident. And that speaks only for them. What about the other party involved?
Earlier this afternoon, I was travelling on the expressway in the extreme right lane. I was trailing behind a taxi at a speed of 100km/hr. Out of the blue a Nissan Skyline appeared behind me & was so close there's barely enough space to slide a dental floss through. Then the driver began flashing his headlights repeatedly. Being a model citizen, I gave way & changed to the next lane. If he had been any closer I would not have been able to blog this entry unless there's wireless connection available in the morgue. Anyway, after I gave way the driver with a heavy foot accelerated right away & began tailgating the taxi. I couldn't tell if he was flashing his headlights again as I was slowing down & preparing to exit the expressway.
My personal opinion is that matter how rush he is in, travelling at 100km/hr does not really make a difference to going at 120km/hr or higher. It's just a matter of a few minutes. As the saying goes, better late than never. Nonetheless, it is not a smart move to block his way either. If he suddenly decides to bump my rear fender I wonder where I would land & what shape I would be in then.

What a narrowing experience! You're tomorrow-ed, my way of bringing across road safety!
Hmm..
Sickening driver.. never die b4 ah!!!
You know why you are being flash headlight for being in the right lane?? A lot of asses out there always said that right lane is NEVER MEANT for 2 wheels...
Which is why whenever we are at the right lane, asses like them will try something funny..
wonder what the hell are they thinking?? Bikers pay for the road tax too right..
Phew lucky you are fine..
Told you liao gona modify my shoes!! Any asses out there do this again i shall scratch their cars!!! hahahah
Was a biker once... Onli when u r zipping through the traffic at 120 km/hr and the fella cannot catch up will u have peace. Drove in a lot of countries b4, but found out tat SGPreans are the worst of the lot. My blood pressure when u a few notch when I am on the road in SGP.
Sorry, that's just ur opinion. I'm sure u've driven cars? On the right lane, there's a bike. Saddling between lanes, see oppor, then weave. Sometimes, they play guai. Bottomline, as a driver behind, you are trying to predict traffic movements to ANTICIPATE. And Bikes on 1st Lane is the least predictable. Bikes in 3rd Lane I can predict.
I know exactly what you mean - I've had it happen to me before as well, mostly on the PIE. As reecia says, it's usually when I'm in the right hand lane - and there are signs on the PIE saying "motorcycles keep left", I guess.
To 09:23 anonymous: I've ridden bikes in most western European countries, and I think Singaporean drivers are the safest and most courteous I've ever seen! Sure, there is the occasional tailgating lunatic, but in general there are far, far fewer aggressive drivers than there are in the UK, for example.
To 09:32am anonymous - I drive a car and ride a bike, and tailgating's just plain stupid no matter who you are or what you drive. It's pointless, it's rude and it kills people.
Anna: Actually it's nothing new to me. I was almost past-tensed 8 yrs ago by a Mercedes.
Reecia: Road signs say Motorcycles & slow moving vehicles please keep left. But it doesn't disallow bikes from travelling on the 1st lane. I wasn't road hogging either so I don't really see the problem since the speed limit on that stretch of road is 90km/hr. Maybe he's angry with me because I'm only paying $80 road tax per annum.
0923HR anonymous: I can't say that SG motorists are the worst as I've only rode in M'sia before. In comparison, I feel that M'sian drivers are more forgiving towards bikers. They give way to you when you show signs that you intend to overtake them. That's a rare sight in SG.
0932HR anonymous: I assume you are the same person as 0923HR? Well, if being on the 1st lane is unpredictable then all the more the driver behind should keep his distance right? But anyway that's just my personal opinion only. It's kinda distraught to hear of road accidents over the radio every morning. Be it car-car, bike-car or bike-bike.
1055HR anonymous: I guess this is part & parcel of being a motorist in sunny island Singapore the fine city. Driving a tank is the only way to guarantee my safety.
i agreed with reese.
having a car or a bike doesnt give you the damz rights to spd, or to test the limit of your life span in singapore...
singapore road not tat big, if want to spd or test your limit, go F1 racing. there are pple there who spd crazy like you.... so dont bully the bikers and other road users on the road, go pick someone in your same size.
if you accident, you die... then good. but if you kill others coz of your idiot driving, assuming you have your rite to spd. damz bastard.
whether to keep left or right... wat is the damz different... the road is still black, and the line is still white.... hahaha if everyone drive with caution, and common courtesy, & with great civility to other road user. then good liao... the road is safe for a day.
soulman (the road bully)
Their idiotic brain just dont function the way as we do... They just simply cant forget that 2 wheels can travel any lane they like, just like the 4 wheels...
Ya $80 dollars road tax might be the issue! hahaha
Just like what i told you, in India, cars and bikers etc just horn to let others know that they are approaching.. They even encourage ppl to horn by painting "Please Horn" at the back of lorries or cars..
In Msia, you can simply see cars giving way to those who overtake them..
But sad to say, i can never see such ppl in Singapore.. If you horn, they will start pointing fingers at you or just press the accelerator to let you smell their smoke.. If you overtake them, they die die also must overtake you again..Acting just like small kids.. dammm
When will this end?? Sigh
Maybe it is because of our upbringing. From young we're expected to excel in everything. And I mean everything. We should never let anyone be better than us, or faster so to speak.
hmm does that mean must be faster to die too??
hahaha
that i can let them win :p
Tail gating is never a right thing to do.
But if I'm not wrong, bikes aren't suppose to take the 1st lane right? Just like lorries and cargo vehicles?
Not very sure about the exact traffic rules on this issue.
Lorries & cargo trailers are not allowed on the 1st lane because their speed limits are capped at 60km/hr. There's no speed limits for motorbikes. It is only advised that bikers keep left, not mandatory.
It is actually even more dangerous for bikers to stay on the extreme left lane as that lane is always occupied by HMVs. Bikers aren't exactly visible to these monsters of the road. Staying on the centre lane isn't safe too as we'll have to keep a lookout for cars from both the left & right. So the safest lane is actually the extreme right lane!
