天坛大佛

Now that the laundry has been done, let's get on with the Hong Kong trip. Instead of relating the entire trip, I shall dedicate this post just for 天坛大佛 which is located on 大屿山.

We set off from 清水湾 & drove to 中环 where we took a ferry to 大屿山. Payment method for the ferry ride was the same as taking the MTR. In Singapore we use the EZ-Link card while it is called 八达通 or Octopus in Hongkong.

This was the 八达通 that we used. Cute isn't it?

I can't remember how much was the fare as I was more pre-occupied with the scenery at the pier instead. Anyway, the destination was 梅窝 (Silvermine Bay) where we will have to take a coach ride or a cab up to the giant buddha.

We took a cab up as we started off pretty late. It would have taken us an hour or so had we chosen the coach ride. The cab ride was about only 20 mins & it cost us approximately HKD$120/= which is like SGD$24/=.

Upon arrival at the base of our destination, I was overwhelmed by the buddha statue sitting on top of the hill. It was just so majestic!

The flight of stairs looked intimidating but I supposed the crave to reach the top pushed me to climb all the way up. The trip would have been pointless & I would have regretted for the rest of my life had I not reached the summit.

We explored the indoor section of the statue where it serves also as a columbarium. Not that we know any of the deceased there but we did see Anita Mui's resting point within. May she rest in peace.

There is a giant bell in the centre of it too and another flight of stairs leading up where there are portraits detailing the essence of buddhism along with some calligraphy works. While on the way down after viewing the calligraphy I noticed there was a mechanical arm next to the bell. I suppose the giant bell was not jux an ornament but in fact a still working artefact. We did not get to hear it rang though.

In all, visiting 天坛大佛 was the most important destination of my HK trip. It was a must see piece of human work & I so much appreciate the chance that I'm given to do so. I'm at a loss of words, really. The view around the island from the top of the hill is just that serene. Peaceful. At ease. I felt like I'm back with nature again.

The pictures of 天坛大佛 were not exactly up to my standard as the sun was already behind it. I must make it a point to visit there early in the morning the next time I'm in Hong Kong!

Note: The indoor section of the giant buddha does not allow video & photographing. It was just too bad but I respect that.

The end of 香港之旅

I am back from Hong Kong! Damn, really did not feel like coming back but reality is just that real. We landed at 8pm on 21st & till now my luggage is only half unpacked. Perhaps I should clear the luggage 1st in case whatever that's in it starts to smell...

吃 吃 吃!!!

This past weekend has been 1 hell of a horrific experience (although much of the food was great -- but still it was so damned sinful!)

Right, firstly it all started on Thursday, 3rd May. It was dinner at 无招牌 Geylang Branch. The crabs, prawns, fish etc etc all were just delicious! It was also a pleasant surprise for my Delicate Delicacy's mum as her eldest sister came back from Hong Kong secretly. Well, actually it wasn't much of a secret since only her parents were in the dark about it. Haha...

Anyway, Friday 4th May it was dinner again. They bought a lot of takeaways to gorge on in the comfort of E & J's place. I gave that a miss as I had to come back home for mummy's cooking. Even though dinner was finished at about 10pm including desserts, we proceeded to Aljunied Road for a round of supper! E had recommended fish dumpling noodles. He said they only start selling at 11pm till morning but the fish dumplings would normally sell out in about 2 hrs time. The noodles & fish dumplings surprisingly tasted good when I was already feeling like a stuffed turkey.

Saturday 5th May was lunch at The West End Boutique Restaurant along Pasir Panjang Road. Beef! Lamb! Chicken! Oysters! Oh what another sinful meal but mMMmmMm... this is what I live for! We checked out VivoCity after lunch & E proposed supper at Henderson Yong Tau Foo. It seems that this particular food stall opens at 11pm too! None of us were exactly excited about it since our stomachs had barely started to digest our lunch. But then, it was eventually cancelled as the 2 VIPs were too full for anything after their dinner at Golden Mile Tower in Beach Road

Sunday 6th May, my Delicate Delicacy's family had 肉骨茶 in Rangoon Road for brunch. That I did not participate as I had the same dish at home too. But it was from another stall in Ang Mo Kio. Delicious too but extremely sinful! Now the best part was dinner. I had intended to join them for dinner but I wanted to pick my parents & send them home 1st. My dad asked if I was going to have dinner with them but I declined as I had promised to eat with my Delicate Delicacy's family. Then he spot me by refusing my offer to pick them since I don't intend to eat with them. Damn... Thus I agreed & picked them up from Chinatown & proceeded to North Bridge Road & had 2 dishes with a soup. My parents are pretty small eaters so I was left with the job of clearing the table. I had not much trouble finishing whatever's on the table but I seriously doubt I could eat anything else within a 6 hr time frame. Still, 830pm we ended up at Geylang Lorong 33 for claypot rice! Oh my goodness... it was food again & again & again... I know I looked patronising but I really did eat quite alot too! The braised duck simply melted in my mouth! It was irresistable! I had a full pot of 潽洱 after I reach home.

I could never remember my dreams but I think I had nightmares...

香港之旅

It is official that our principle is buying over my present company. But we were not told that we can't bring forward our annual leave over until late last month! Initially we were even told that we cannot encash our leave. How on earth are we going to clear our leave when almost everyone has more than 10 days & given that we only work 22 days a month?

But eventually our boss gave in & allowed us to encash it. I suppose he himself knows it is impossible to do so. Most of my colleagues will be encashing their leftover leave but not me. I am going on a holiday with that 10 days! Yes! I'm going Hong Kong with my delicate delicacy next thursday! It is kind of a rush as her sister is coming back this Thursday & returning to Hong Kong on the 10th. Therefore we arrange to take the same flight as her in order to save her the trouble making another trip to the airport to pick us.

Before I forget, my boss arranged for a company trip to Genting from the 18th to 20th May. I am not particularly interested in that trip even though it is paid for. Therefore I am going to forsake it & enjoy myself in Hong Kong instead! But my boss tried to convince me otherwise. When he realise that he can't, he even told me that HK Disneyland is boring. He told me to check out the theme park at The Peak. Hmm... is there a theme park there? Or does he consider the wax museum as a theme park? Try to smoke limpeh ah? Kaoz!!

If only I had more leave, I would have stretched it all the way till the last day of the month!

Note: My colleague asked me to get him an A grade LV tissue box if I visit 深圳. I told my delicate delicacy about it & guess what? She ask me does he intend to change new windows for his car. Hahahaha! If I am the thief, I will puncture all his tires as well if I realise it is a forgery! Hahahaha!
