Before I forget, Alson, my manager called me this morning & briefly enquired about my training & how the chinaman was doing so far. He also mentioned about my leave application during the Chinese New Year period. It seems that there is just a window of 1 day when no one seems to be working & should any customer's equipment breaks down, no one will be available to service it. Not entirely a big issue as pretty often we do not turn up on the same day that a problem surfaces. But hey! Not that we don't want to go, but most of the time we are already stuck in another customer site!
Anyway, prior to his approval, I received wind that he did not approve it & I was exremely pissed due to various reasons which I will not specify here. I was prepared to go to extreme measures to get back at him. I told my better half that should anyone ruin our plans, I will make miserable for him! But all is in good faith, everything has turned out well & I'm all mentally prepared to go for a vacation with my darling! That is the happiest phone call I've received since arriving in Cambridge!
Right then, onwards with my dinner. David picked us up at 715pm & we were supposed to head down to Regent Street where there were supposedly many bars & restaurants. He kinda got lost although he has a GPS system mounted in his vehicle, but I wouldn't blame him. He's Irish. Not that being Irish means constantly losing his way, but he's as new to Cambridge as we are!
Nevertheless, we found an underground parking & walked about for 10 mins or so before chancing upon a bar. We decided to have some drinks before scouting around for some food. I had another Fosters lager while he had a lemonade. The chinaman had a lemonade as well for he isn't capable of holding his liquor well. Alex the russian kid had some ale too. I know that David wishes to drink too but he couldn't as he was driving. I guess the drink driving rule in England is as harsh as Singapore.
We finished our drinks & proceeded to search for a restaurant nearby. We went round & round, a handful of left & right turns & then we found ourselves in a dead end! But there was this restaurant pub located right at the end & we agreed to settle on this. The menu wasn't very enticing but it looked good enough. I had wanted to have another beer but decided to get a coke first. I'd rather finish my food first & if there's still room, I'll definitely have another beer!
I had some pork sausages with onions & mashed potatoes in red wine gravy. I was pleasantly surprised it tasted that good! But unfortunately, I did not managed to finish the potato. It was the Fosters lager fault. And thankfully I had not ordered another beer!
It was already 10pm by the time we were done & so David sent us back to the guest house.
Pork sausages -- £$7.75
Coke -- £$1.60
Total Damage -- £$9.35
That's almost SGD$30 but it is considered relatively cheap in Cambridge. I shall not complain about it anymore but I believe I will not be eating out again tomorrow!
